During the second World War in 1940 the Royal Army Services Corps took over the Tansley Mills and surrounding area. Drill and weapon training courses were held here and the men stayed in Nissen huts situated on a piece of land near the Bottom Mill. In 1970 this area was acquired by the Matlock District Scouts and the Nissen huts were replaced by army surplus wooden huts. Tansleywood Scout Centre now provides outdoor adventure for young people from all over the UK. The Picture shows local scouts, leaders and dignitaries.
