Darley Moor Race Track near Ashbourne. The race track is used for Motor Bikes races throughout the year but on this day the pits where full of pedal cars. The races took place on part of the racing track, lined up on a start grid and started by lights.
The competitive races, cheered on by the crowd were
fast and exciting. A great spectacle and an enjoyable da
y.

The National Scout Car Races take place every year, the event consists of individual sprint races and team relay races.
The races are divided into events for Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and the Scout Network.
The event is both a technical and tactical challenge for everyone involved as each pedalcar has to be designed and built by each group and then has to survive inspection before a full day of racing commences.
The pedalcar designs have to comply with the scoutcar specification, particularly the dimensions and safety aspects
I.e. Brakes, steering and dangerous sharp edges.

The Grand Prix events consist of a relay where each car is driven by 4 drivers who take it in turn to complete either one or two laps before changing.
The Cub Scout Grand Prix lasts approx 15 minutes and the Scouts 20 minutes. The objective is to be the team that completes the most laps in the time available.
In addition to the Championship and Grand Prix trophies their are prizes for the best car design, best newcomer and most distrant entries.
Teams also appear in the Premier, First and Second Divisions for each scout section and the teams are selected for each Division depending upon previous performance
.

The District teams returned with a lot of trophies, The picture shows Mike Leach (Event Organiser) and the trophies being presented by Mel Dyson (Derwent & Dove District Commissioner)
