The District swimming gala takes place every year around November at alternate swimming pools Ashbourne and Matlock
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts all take part in single length races and multi length relay races.
The races are organised into the scout section age groups and after heats, and the final races points are awarded as follows:

1st place 5 points
2nd place 4 points
3rd place 3 points
4th place 2 points
5th place 1 point

At the end of the gala the Scout Group with the most points receives a shield to be kept until the next Gala takes place.
There is also a trophy called the "Canon Relay"which is a relay involving all sections of a group.
